What a start to the year it's been, and we're bursting with news to share!
🗓️ January: We began 2025 with a heartfelt plea to our amazing community, sharing our dream of building a brand new shelter for the animals in our care. Our resolution was clear: purchase a large piece of land and take the first steps towards new kennels, running water, and electricity.
📚 March: Education & Awareness: We continued our vital educational mission in local schools, teaching young minds about animal welfare rights. We were honoured to have the support of the animal police and the wonderful team at K9Aid, who provided invaluable materials for our programme.
🏡 March: Dream Achieved! We are absolutely THRILLED to announce that in March, we OFFICIALLY PURCHASED THE LAND for our new build shelter! This incredible milestone is all thanks to your unwavering support.
🐶 March: A Military Rescue Mission: March also saw a heartwarming international collaboration. Four adorable puppies were found by Royal Artillery soldiers and, through the fantastic partnership of the Romanian animal police and the Romanian police, they were safely brought to our shelter for care and quarantine. Soon, they will be making their way to loving new homes in the UK with their military families!
🚚 March: Food Secured! Thanks to YOUR incredible votes on the Veto Wishlist, we received a HUGE truckload of much-needed food! This will make a massive difference in feeding the animals in our care. Thank you for making their wishes come true!
🌍 April: Celebrating World Stray Day: We continued our outreach in April, celebrating World Stray Day by visiting schools and centres. It was a joy to interact with over 400 children, raising awareness about animal welfare with the continued support of the Romanian animal police.
🚧 End of April: The Build Begins! The shovels are (virtually!) in the ground! At the end of April, we officially started the build of our new shelter with the crucial first step of levelling the land. Truck after truck of hardcore has been delivered to prepare the site before we can erect fencing and bring in essential utilities like water and electricity.
We are so incredibly grateful for every single bit of support, whether it's a donation, a share, a vote, or your continued encouragement. Every action brings us closer to fulfilling our dream of a safe, comfortable, and well-equipped haven for animals in need.
Stay tuned for more updates on our building journey! ❤️
Crucially, while the exciting progress on our new shelter project was underway in Romania, our amazing and dedicated teams across the UK, Germany, and France were simultaneously maintaining their vital work on the ground. Their tireless efforts focused on raising crucial funds through various initiatives and, most importantly, continuing to find wonderful, loving adoption matches for the animals currently in our care, ensuring that they too have the chance for a bright future while we build towards an even better one for those to come.
During January and February our German team secured adoptions for these gorgeous dogs: Mira, Sasha, Anuschka, Ronja and Nino.

And also secured loving foster homes for Timo,Floyd and Cora.

During the same months our team in France arranged adoptions for Trude, Nelu, Echo, Coco, Archie and Sorina. Plus secured foster homes for Pepino and Totolina.

In Romania a family adopted 2 little pups together called Jamie and Max .

Back in January we were delighted when our friends and supporters in SPCA International offered to take 2 beautiful dogs that were rescued by us on the border with Ukraine when the war started. The two brothers Nanouk and Balto travelled together all the way to Canada to go into foster with Canadian families.

In the UK, we also had success with the following adoptions.
Henwen (previously named Mia) was adopted by a loving family in Gloucestershire, where she will be enjoying lots of adventures on her caravan holidays.

Beautiful little Brinnie (previously named Fanni) was adopted by a previous Sava's adopter and travelled to Essex to enjoy beautiful beach walks with her new family and sister Beauty.

Pretty, Faith travelled to Northamptonshire to her new family and will be enjoying lots of country walks.

Who could forget this little cutie. Wicket (previously named Gizmo) was adopted by a wonderful family in Devon and will be enjoying a fabulous life.

Otis was adopted by another previous Sava's adopter and travelled to his new home in Essex to enjoy the local woods and countryside walks.

Ruby who was adopted before Xmas, sadly had to come into foster and be rehomed due to a change in family circumstances.
She was rehomed to a wonderful couple in Southport. She is now enjoying beach walks and playing ball with her new dad!

In March and April our adoption numbers dropped with all our teams but we did have some successful happy endings.
Our German team achieved adoptions for Kalinka, Lando and Chico.

And our French team secured adoptions for Armani, Tally and Maasha.

One of our new rescue dogs Elsa was adopted by a family in Romania.

The UK also secured adoptions for these wonderful dogs.
Marley (previously named Petrisor) travelled all the way up north to Scotland where he will enjoying mountain walks with his new family.

Buddy was adopted to a home in Lancashire where he will start to enjoy local walks and trips to the beach.

This little pocket rocket is Ziggy, he was adopted by a wonderful family in Surrey and will be enjoying all his countryside walks.

Galina was also adopted by a previous Sava's adopter and is travelling in the next few days to her new home in West Yorkshire, where I'm sure she will enjoy all the beautiful countryside.

And finally we had the heartwarming story of the rescue of 4 puppies by a group of British soldiers. These pups travel next week to the UK to join their new military families, having been in quarantine and cared for by the Sava family.

Thank you to all our adopters and supporters and to all our hard working volunteers.
